7 Side Hustles That Actually Work (Tried & Tested Ideas for Real Income)
In a world where costs are higher and flexibility is craved, side hustles are more than just trendy, they are becoming the norm. Especially among women and stay at home mothers. But not all side gigs are created equal. Some are oversaturated, underpaying, or simply not worth the effort.
The list I have created will probably be different than most posts you will read on this topic, but I like to be just that. Different. I have a passion for helping others, and so below are my tried and true side hustles.
If you’re looking for side hustles that actually work (ones that can bring in real money without draining your time or energy) you’re in the right place. Whether you’re creative, introverted, extroverted or a busy gal in general, there’s something here for you.
1. Creating & Selling Digital Products
Digital products are the goldmine of passive income. Think eBooks, templates, printables, online courses, or even Lightroom presets if you are a photographer. Once created, they can be sold over and over again. This is my favorite “passive” income by far. It’s still work to create a digital product, but once you make one you’ll be hooked. My favorite platform to sell digital products on is Stan Store. It’s a one stop shop that has everything you need to sell a digital product, especially for a beginner just getting started. If you are curious how to create & sell a digital product I will link my course that covers everything you need to know to start.
2. Blogging (Yes, It Still Works)
Blogging isn’t dead, it’s just evolved. With niches like personal finance, parenting/motherhood, cooking, homesteading and home decor, you can build a blog that earns through affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, and ad revenue. Blogging can take a little bit of time to get established, but it is worth it. Here is a link to a post that goes more in-depth to starting a blog of your own.
3. Reselling on Facebook Marketplace
If you are a thrifter like me, then you will love this one. Facebook Marketplace is one of the fastest ways to make money locally. I have done this in the past and I still do it just for fun. It also helps me justify a new purchase for my home, because I can always sell something to make room for the new piece. 😉
4. In-Home Baking Classes
If you love baking (especially sourdough, cakes, or pastries), teaching others can be both profitable and fun. People are always looking for hands-on experiences, especially in small groups or private settings.
Example: A 2-hour sourdough workshop for 4 people at $75 each = $300 for one class. It can be pretty lucrative.
5. Start a Cottage Bakery (in home bakery)
Thanks to “cottage food” laws in many areas, you can legally sell homemade baked goods right from your kitchen. Think cookies, breads, custom cakes, or gluten-free treats. Usually it’s low startup cost and higher profit margins. Once word gets out, you can build a loyal local customer base. Most local cake bakers I know use the cottage law for their business.
6. Get Paid for Amazon Reviews
Did you know some companies will send you free products (or even pay) for honest reviews on Amazon? While you need to be careful and comply with FTC and Amazon rules, this is a legit (and growing) space. Brands are hungry for real customer feedback and reviews from regular ole’ “you and me” type of people. If you’re consistent, this can evolve into free products and a steady income. Youtube has a lot of helpful videos on how to get started. I’ve started the process in the past, but because of how limited my time is it’s not something I’m currently pursuing.
7. Virtual Assistant (VA) for Business Owners
Small business owners and social media influencers are constantly drowning in emails, posting, scheduling, and admin tasks. If you’re organized and reliable, you can easily land clients as a virtual assistant. It’s in demand, flexible, and can grow into a full-time income or even an agency. Bonus: many clients don’t care where you’re located as long as you get results. It’s a great gig for anyone who wants to work remotely with flexible hours.
In Conclusion
The best side hustle is one that fits your lifestyle and excites you enough to stay consistent. Whether you’re creating digital products in your spare time or baking sourdough for your neighborhood, these side hustles are proven to generate real income.
I think it’s amazing that in this day in age we have so many opportunities to make a little extra, but not all of the sidegigs are trustworthy. If you liked this blog post, I’d love to hear your feedback and answer any questions you may have.
